Borrowing limits
You can have a maximum of 15 items on loan at one time.Loan periods
Videos, DVDs and lending magazines can be borrowed for 1 week. Most other items can be borrowed for 3 weeks.Fines
Fines are imposed on items that are overdue, damaged or lost.
Fines apply to overdue items borrowed with an adult library card and may prevent you from borrowing other items until the charges are paid. There are no charges for overdue loans on junior library cards, except for a fee on long overdue items. Please see Overdue item fines for more details.
If a borrowed item is lost or damaged, you will need to pay the cost of purchasing and processing a replacement. Please see Replacement items fees for more details.
Requesting items
You can request items from any State Library branch in Tasmania. You can then collect these items from your local library. This free service is available through our catalogue, TalisPlus, or by asking a staff member. Please see Placing holds for further information.

Renewing items
You can renew your items for a maximum of two additional loan periods. Go to the ‘My Library’ feature of our catalogue, or ask or phone library staff. Please see What is My Library? for more information.
Interlibrary loans
If we do not hold a copy of a book, report, article or other publication you are seeking, we may be able to obtain a copy for you from an interstate or overseas library. Please see Document delivery and interlibrary loans for more information.
Suggesting a purchase
If you believe there is an item that should be part of the State Library collections, you can suggest that we purchase it by completing our Suggestion for purchase form.
