Eligibility for a library Card
All Tasmanian residents are eligible to become members of the State Library.
Children under 18 require an adult to sign as guarantor. The guarantor is responsible for the child’s reading and any debts incurred.
Applying for a library card
To get a library card you must complete our application form in person. You can do this at any public library in Tasmania. A library card is free.
Three forms of personal identification must be presented with the application form. At least one of these documents must include your current address and one your date of birth. Acceptable personal identification is listed below.
If none of these items shows your current address, you will also need to provide either a bank statement up to 6 months old or a utility account (eg. electricity or phone) with proof of payment.
When registering children, personal identification is required for the guarantor only.
