Donating items to your library
We welcome gifts of new and used books, videos, DVDs, audio books, CDs and children's resources that enhance our existing collections. Your donation of suitable items will be gladly received for assessment at any of our branch libraries.
Library staff assess donations according to subject, format, physical condition and likely demand. Accepted items becomes part of our state-wide lending collection and is made available for people to borrow through any of our branches. Unsuitable items may be sold to generate additional income for new purchases.
Please note that we cannot accept outdated editions or items in poor condition, unless they have Tasmanian heritage value.
Gift of a Good Read fund
Donating to the Gift of a Good Read fund is a great way to support the purchase of new books for our collections.
All books purchased from this fund will be labelled with a Gift of a Good Read bookplate and placed in our collections for the enjoyment of all our members.
Donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible and can be made through any of our branch libraries. Please ask a staff member for more information.
We can accept large donations for special purposes such as library furniture, new equipment, children's programs, or to fund any useful addition to our services and resources. Should you wish to discuss a large donation for a special purpose, please contact our Major Gifts Coordinator for further information on (03) 6233 7511.
