These includes atlases, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, maps, journals, newspapers and other reference books across the breadth of human knowledge. This material is generally not for personal loan so that clients and staff, on behalf of clients, can locate information immediately for study, research or general interest. Some items are able to be sent to other libraries for use in that library and photocopying services are available. The State Library also has an increasing range of electronic reference resources such as online indexes and databases which include journal articles and some full-text articles.
The major reference collection is housed in the State Reference Library, in Hobart. All branches of the State Library hold a selection of ready reference materials with the more extensive collections being in the larger city libraries. Details of the location and opening hours of the libraries can be found in Find a Library. All of our collections can be accessed and searched through our integrated online statewide catalogue TALISPlus.
