The State Library holds an extensive range of Tasmanian resources, as well as a selection from interstate and overseas, which will be of interest to people researching family history. These resources come in a variety of formats including print, microform, CD-ROM and the Internet.
The State Reference Service has produced basic information sheets to help with research. These guides include such topics as getting started, Australian arrival and shipping records, searching for overseas records and Indexes available on the Internet from Archives Offices.
The library also holds guides on how to start searching your family history. Indexes for births, deaths and marriages for most states of Australia, England and Wales are held, however, the time periods covered vary for each area. Other resources provide information about convicts and free settlers, the military, cemeteries and orphanages. Land grant information, census and muster records, newspapers, telephone directories and electoral rolls are also available.
