Artist Statement: To conjure up a dialogue between the museum space and objects that reflect the illusory aspects of Carroll’s book, I have created a series of oozing abstract forms that emanate from the wall to the floor to tease the viewer’s expectations of the ‘study’ as a period in space and time. These distorted objects conjure the laudanum* - inspired transformations of mind and matter often associated with Carroll, his characters and our experience as readers. *a tincture of opium supposedly used by Carroll to ease his painful arthritis. |
