The purpose of the voyage was to discover the fate of the missing French explorer La Perouse. Although it was unsuccessful in this, the voyage is renowned for its scientific discoveries, its friendly relations with the indigenous people and its admirable charts of the areas visited, including the south east coast of Tasmania. |
