London: Government Printer, September 1831. Frankland served in the British Army in India in the 1820s. He was appointed Assistant Surveyor, Van Diemen’s Land, in 1826, and Surveyor General in 1827. This map shows the movements of the 2600-strong military and civilian volunteer forces that were deployed in October-November 1830 in a “Black Line” to drive Aboriginal people out of the settled districts of the colony. The exercise resulted in the capture of one man and one boy. |
