Natural history artist, born in Austria. He worked in Oxford, England, before accompanying Matthew Flinders on his voyage round Australia between 1801 and 1805. Bauer’s botanical drawings of Australian plants are renowned for their elegance, meticulous accuracy and exquisite detail.
