Information recorded by undertakers can help family historians fill in some gaps in their research. Typically undertaker records include: the name of the deceased, age at death, date of death, where the person died, burial date, burial place and who paid for the funeral.
Indexes are available for four Hobart funeral businesses: Pierce J Keating Funeral Records 1895-1964, Alex Clark Funeral records 1885-1907, Clark Bros Funeral Records 1910-1945 and H.C.Millington Funeral Records 1925-1964. The microfilmed records of Pierce J Keating, Undertakers, 1895-1964 are held by the Archives Office of Tasmania and photocopies of the records of Alexander Clark & Sons, Clark Bros and H.C.Millington are held by the Tasmanian Family History Society.
