Is there a pile of old newspapers under your bed, in your shed or under the floorboards? Do you want to help preserve our social history for future generations?
Well the State Library of Tasmania wants to hear from you.
Under the ambitious Australian Newspaper Plan (ANPlan), managed by Australia's national, state and territory libraries, we want to find, collect and preserve the nation’s ‘at risk’ or historically important missing newspapers.
Newspapers are fragile and can become brittle and crumble into dust. By helping us to find our "missing papers", we can preserve them into the future for all Australians to enjoy.
So regardless of where you live or the particular “Wanted” newspaper you find, we want to hear from you.
The list of Tasmanian papers is below. But if you find an old newspaper that is not Tasmanian, do check against the ANPLan website at www.nla.gov.au/anplan for the list of other "missing in action" newspapers. It may just be one!

Contact the State Library of Tasmania’s “newspaper detective”, Senior Librarian, Anna Zylstra direct on (03) – 6233 7457 or via email at state.library@education.tas.gov.au
Anna will:
1. Ask you what newspaper it is?
2. Ask you what year it is?
3. Then talk with you to decide if it is worth bringing in to your local library for us to have a look at it.
Or talk to your local library staff. Staff can then contact Anna about the missing newspaper on your behalf after asking you a few key questions.
Or contact the ANPlan coordinator Dr Hilary Berthon at the National Library of Australia on 02 6262 1642 or at hberthon@nla.gov.au.
