State Library of Tasmania
Building Redevelopment
91 Murray Street
There are some changes happening at our Hobart building.
What are we doing?
Construction work has commenced on level 2, 91 Murray Street to create a single reference area for access to the services and collections of the State Reference Library, the Tasmaniana Library and the Archives Office of Tasmania.
Why are we doing it?
As part of the Tasmanian Government’s Community Knowledge Network strategy, the Archives Office of Tasmania and the Heritage Collections, State Library of Tasmania will merge to provide easy and integrated access to their services and collections. This amalgamation has provided us with the opportunity to design a new service delivery area. This new combined area will be open from early September. The project includes:
- Installation of new service desks
- Improved layout of the State Reference Library
- An integrated and expanded family history service
- Upgrade of the microfilm facilities
- Creation of a new reference area to enable access to unique and rare archival and heritage material in a secure environment.
How will this affect services to the public?
As part of the building process, access to some items may be disrupted. We are doing our best to limit any inconvenience to client service delivery during this period.
