SOME MEMBER REVIEWS....
This is just a sample of some of the recent reviews we have received from members.
CAREY and SORENSEN
The Penguin Book of Death
?We did it to death!!? Great discussion ? noisy and hilarious- and instructive.
COETZEE, J M
Disgrace
The best and longest discussion we have ever had. So many aspects of human frailty and power, and the losing of power both personal and political.
Burnie 2 Book Group
FLANAGAN, Martin
In Sunshine or in Shadow
Most lively discussion we?ve had since we started our book group. The book got all of us thinking about our families and their various foibles. We enjoyed the Tasmanian history.

FLANNERY, Tim
Throwim? Way Leg
A very stimulating conversation. Excellent book, great science, enjoyed because it was a bit of a travel book told with humour in a relaxed style. Great discussion!!
West Rose
GAITA, Raymond
The Philosopher?s Dog
This book evoked probably as animated a discussion as we?ve had since the group was formed. Most people found the philosophy difficult to understand but were keen to discuss the points raised and give their personal opinions based on their experience.
Bicheno Penguin BG
HADDON, Mark
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
It?s a first ? everyone loved it! Most wanted to or did read it a second time. Some would not have chosen this book to read ? so were really glad they did. Insightful book.
Illiterates
HOSSEINI, Khaled
The Kite Runner
Like ?opening a door? to another world ? well-written, visual ? in that it was possible to be in the locations etc and experience the people, the culture and their lives. It was enjoyed very much and possibly a hard ?act? to follow. Written as a ?real life experience?.
Kingborough Readers
HOWELL, Georgina
Daughter of the Desert
?Wonderful?. We all loved the book, the story, the remarkable way it was told, the author. Truly a wonderful tale of a remarkable woman. It was past 11 o?clock before we stopped discussion but could have gone on and on. Remarkable.
Latecomers
JAMES, P.D
Devices and Desires
Very favourable. Riveting and could not put it down (made-dinner-late book). One had to stay up till 12.30 a.m. to complete it. Stimulated a great discussion.
Book Ends
QUINDLEN, Anna
One True Thing
An excellent book for discussion. It?s written so well. The dynamics of mother/daughter, father/daughter relationships during a traumatic time are portrayed brilliantly. Our group thoroughly enjoyed reading and discussing this book.
Dover Readers
REYNOLDS, Henry
This Whispering in Our Hearts
A book worth reading ? one month is much too short to take it all in. It was thought-provoking and provided excellent discussion. Being able to read such a book and the opportunity to discuss it is one of the joys and advantages of belonging to a book club.
Nottage Hill Book Group
ROSE, Heather
The Butterfly Man
Wonderful ? refreshing read, made even more so enjoyable because it?s Tassie based. Knowing the ?Lucan? history a bonus ? each of us was embraced by not only a tragic story but also a bit of ?what if?. Heather Rose ? a Tassie treasure.
Kentish Book Group
SILVEY, Craig
Rhubarb
Delighted, created lively discussion. We enjoyed the fact that it was set in Australia, and we could identify with the setting.
Phoenix Book Group
WINTON, Tim
Dirt Music
Tim Winton?s description of the stunning WA landscape is written with love, awe and wonder. He makes you want to pack the campervan and join the grey nomads discovering this vast country. Dirt Music also provided lengthy discussion on many themes: relationships, families and communities. Dirt Music is an intricate painting.
XINRAN
Sky Burial
Highly recommended. One of the best books we?ve read. Everyone was very moved by this book. Was also interesting to discuss while the Olympic Games were on. Hard to imagine staying in Tibet for 30 years for the quest. Great translation ? felt better written than many books whose authors are native English speakers.
