State Library of Tasmania (All libraries and collections)
A combined catalogue of items held in all State Library branch, city, special and reference libraries.
The State Reference Service, located on the second floor of the State Library building in Hobart, contains an extensive collection of reference material, newspapers and periodicals, family history materials, government publications, maps, standards, statistics and service manuals, and access to a wide range of on-line databases. The State Library of Tasmania's Heritage Collections provide access to Tasmania's documentary heritage and play a vital role in preserving the essence of Tasmania's culture.
The Heritage Collections provide reference and research services to clients in Tasmania, elsewhere in Australia and around the world. These collections have developed, and continue to develop, in various ways – through purchase, legal deposit, bequest and donation. A selection of new titles received by the State Library is available in the New Arrivals list each month. All of our collections can be accessed and searched through our integrated online statewide catalogue, TALIS.

The Tasmaniana Library indexes a wide variety of newspaper and periodical content relating to Tasmania. The Tasmanian Index provides details of relevant articles. To access the articles in full, patrons need to locate back issues of the newspapers and magazines, which are available through the State Reference Library and City Libraries. This index lists community organisations in Tasmania by the name of the organisation and by subject. You can also search for community organisations located in your area and municipality.
Beautiful images of items held in the Heritage Collections of the State Library. Using this index you can search for images by creator, title, subject or format, or explore some virtual exhibitions on specific topics. Formats depicted include paintings, drawings, photographs, posters, scrimshaw, currency, postcards, illustrations from books relevant to Tasmania, apple and pear case labels and items of decorative art, including silver, porcelain, glass and furniture. The University of Tasmania Catalogue allows you to search the libraries of the Hobart and Launceston campuses, including specialised satellite libraries in various faculties.
