Libraries have collections of books, videos, DVDs, CDs, magazines and CD-ROMs for loan. Reference items can be used in the library, but not borrowed. All of our collections can be accessed and searched through our integrated online statewide catalogue, TALIS.
You can borrow up to 15 items at one time.
Most items - up to 3 weeks. Videos, DVDs and lending magazines - 1 week.
You can renew the items you have on loan through our catalogue TALIS or by asking a staff member.
You need to have your librarycard number.
You can renew all your items or a selected few.
You are not able to renew overdue items that have incurred fines through TALIS or items that are on hold for another patron. Please contact a staff member at your regular library for assistance.
No charge for registering or borrowing.
Fines are charged for returning items late.
For items more than 5 weeks overdue, you are charged the replacement cost. See the Schedule of Fees and Charges for details.
If you return the items, only a fine is charged.
If you owe $10 or more, you cannot borrow items until your debt is reduced to below $10.
There are no library fines on junior members' librarycards.
You can place a hold when the title is on loan or from another Tasmanian public library.
You can have up to 15 holds at any one time.
If you owe $10 or more, you cannot place reservations.
When the item is available the library notifies you and you have 10 days in which to collect it. See holds notification.
You can place and cancel your own holds through our catalogue TALIS or by asking a staff member.
You need to have your librarycard number.
You can nominate which library you want to collect the item from.
You can cancel holds if you change your mind.
You can check if your hold is available for pickup.
You can check your patron record, including your loans and holds by accessing the patron record function on the TALIS catalogue. You will need to use your library card number and phone number to access your patron record.
