All city libraries and some branch libraries have designated parking for people with disabilities, either in library carparks or close by.
Many library buildings are readily accessible for people with physical disabilities. All city libraries have automatic opening doors, toilets for the physically disabled, and lifts and ramps where required.
Some of these facilities are also available at a number of branch libraries which have been brought up to the standard required by AS1428 Design for access and mobility Part 1: General requirements for access - Buildings.
In addition, aisle widths in some libraries, and the heights of tables on which TALIS (Tasmanian Automated Library and Information System) terminals and personal computers are placed, will accommodate wheelchair access. Some libraries have baskets on wheels to assist people to carry items to be checked out.
For particular details about access at your local library, check its home page, or ring the library.
If you are unable to visit the library in person you should enquire about the Home Library Service or the Recorded Book Service. You can also search the online catalogue, TALIS and reserve an item by placing a hold.
