All branches of the State Library of Tasmania have at least one computer with Internet access.
We provide access to the World Wide Web and the PCs can be used for private research. Material can be printed or downloaded to disc.
Most PCs in the libraries do not allow access to interactive games, chat rooms, illegal sites or e-mail.
You must abide by the Library's Conditions of Use for the Internet that are displayed in all libraries. There is no separate registration process for Internet use. Normal library registration processes include agreement to the Conditions of Use. The guarantors of library users under 18 agree to the child using the Internet.
The Internet services are available to all library users. Parents and guardians should note that the library does not provide any supervision for children and that, as guarantor, they are responsible for ensuring that children under 18 abide by the Conditions of Use.
Most libraries have some PCs that can be booked in advance. The booking period is either half-hour or one-hour sessions, dependent on the library. Contact the individual library to enquire. Contact details for each library are available under Our Libraries. PCs in Hobart izone and Hobart Lending can be booked online using our Netloan booking system.
Use of the Internet is free of charge to all Australian residents. There are charges for printing. See Fees and Charges for details.
Non-Australian visitors are charged for the use of e-mail.
