The State Library of Tasmania’s Website Evaluation Centre is available for hire, providing usability testing facilities for clients undertaking website development and redesign. The aim of usability testing is to make websites and website content more accessible and easy to navigate and use. The primary focus currently for the service is for usability testing of government agency websites.
The State Library offers options for the use of the Centre, ranging from training clients to undertake usability testing as independent users of the Centre, to the State Library performing full usability testing on behalf of the client. Options will be discussed and negotiated between the State Library and the client.
The State Library is keen to promote the use of the Website Evaluation Centre by clients able to run independent usability testing. In order to ensure that clients are familiar with the equipment provided and the formats followed in usability testing, the State Library offers training to accredit clients in the use of the Website Evaluation Centre. This training is compulsory for clients who wish to become independent users of the Centre.
The Website Evaluation Centre consists of a test room with PC and video equipment, an observation room with TV and monitor suitable for up to 3 observers, and recording facilities. A technician is provided to set up and monitor equipment, and is on call during the clients’ use of the Centre.
