Reading to your baby is one of the greatest gifts you can give them.  Babies who are regularly read to develop listening skills and attentiveness, and a familiarity with printed words which gives them a head start with reading and writing.  The first two years of life are an important time for language development.  By listening to nursery rhymes, songs, poems and stories, babies begin to recognise words and language patterns.

As soon as children are born they can start benefiting from this great program, working their way through the Baby Book Packs each year as they grow older.  You can find Baby Book Packs in selected libraries, or reserve one through the Library's catalogue, TALIS.  Simply do a title search for 'Baby Book Pack', select the age range you require and place a hold on it. We will notify you when your Book Pack arrives.

The Baby Book Packs provide just a small sample of the huge range of books and other things for children that are available from the Library. The State Library has thousands of wonderful children’s books, videos, DVDs and audiocassettes that can be borrowed from anywhere in the state through the Library’s state wide loan system.
