Animal Stories lists books and movies from our enormous collection where an animal is a main character. Enjoy old time favourite novels, non-fiction, pet recipes and books on pet care to name a few.

Here are our animal stories reading suggestions for you (and your pet's!) reading pleasure. Download the Animal Stories List as a PDF file.

Pet competition

Read a book, be happy! To celebrate all things furry and loveable, we held a pet competition asking library users to send in photos of their pet to be in our Animal Stories promotion. We are happy to announce the winner of our poster pet competition was Happy, the Basset Hound. Congratulations Happy! Max, Murphy & Perdy also made it onto the flyer.

We received more than 175 emails of people's beloved pets for our competition. The judges, taken from members of staff from Arts Tasmania and the State Library, and Dr. Moira van Dorsselaer from the Hobart Animal Hospital, had the terribly difficult task of choosing the top 20. Thanks for sending us your pet photos, they were all gorgeous!
