Newspapers

Newspapers can be a very useful source of information for family historians. They can contain:

personal announcements such as births, deaths and marriages (see indexes in the Births, Deaths and Marriages subject category)
ship arrivals and departures
social events - various club reports, and what was happening in the area
educational information
government and political information
trade - advertisements, businesses opening or closing

Newspapers often changed their name, were absorbed by, or merged with other newspapers.
This can be seen reflected in the list below, which is a selection of 19^th and 20^th Tasmanian
newspapers.
