All lending materials and services are accessible on the ground floor, including reservations, children's services, Home Library Service and recorded book service, and access to TALIS, the State Library’s online catalogue and information system.
Materials available for loan include fiction, information resources, magazines, CDs, cassettes, videos, and CD-ROMs. Any item held anywhere in the State lending collections can be reserved through TALIS, free of charge. For those rainy days, Burnie Library also offers a unique umbrella loan service, which will help to keep you and your books dry.
The children’s section of the library contains toys, mobiles, a fire engine, dressing up clothes, mirrors and a large blackboard, in addition to a wide range of children’s lending and reference resources.
Regular storytime is held during term-time on Thursdays at 10:30am.
Burnie Reference Library, on the mezzanine floor, houses an extensive local history and genealogical collection, a range of reference books, journals and newspapers, including some back issues, the Tasmanian convict records, state and national maps, and a variety of CD ROM reference titles. Many books are available for short-term loan.
The library proves a public access computer with word processing and simple spreadsheet capabilities. Booking is recommended.
A public meeting room is available on the top floor. This can be hired at very reasonable rates. This floor also houses the School Leadership Development and Guaranteeing Futures offices of the State Education Department.
