Friends of the Library Glenorchy

Friends of the Library Glenorchy enables a valuable link between the Library and its community and also facilitates excellent feedback on local library services.

The Friends of the Library Glenorchy is involved in a wide range of activities including:

Services for people with disabilities

• Ground level access
• Carparking
• Wheel-chair access throughout the building, and specifically designed toilet facilities
• Wheeled baskets
• T-loop facility at the staff service point
• For the deaf and hearing impaired sub-titled videos and DVD's 
• ScannaR machine which "reads out" text
• Zoomtext machine which enlarges text onto a screen
• Large Print titles
• Recorded Book Service providing books on compact disc or cassette

Children and young people

Storytime sessions for preschoolers and their carers are held every Tuesday 11-12. More information on Storytime sessions

School holiday activities vary each term and include craft activities and special events such as author visits. The library participates in the statewide Summer Holiday Program every January. More information on School holiday activities

Reading Together is a free weekly parent and child program which combines stories, sing songs and borrowing books. The program runs Fridays from 10-11. More information on Reading Together

Rock and Rhyme is an interactive session for young babies aged 0-24 months old with their parents or carers. The program runs 10.30-10.50 on Wednesdays in 2007. More information on Rock and Rhyme

Click Club offers access to fun online activities for preschoolers such as colouring a picture online, playing a game or doing a jigsaw puzzle. Sessions run every Wednesday 11-11.30

Family History

The Library has a collection of genealogical material such as Tasmanian Births, Deaths and Marriages, journals and other records in microformats. More information on Family History

Home Library Service

Meeting Rooms

There are three meeting rooms available for public use during the day, evening or weekend. Hire rates are very reasonable and bookings are essential. Displays and exhibitions
