Friends of the Library, Launceston

The Friends are members of the community working together to support and promote Launceston Library.
The Roles of the Friends are:
- to form a link between Library and community to promote a sense of ownership of the Library as a local resource and cultural centre;
- to work within the community to enhance the profile of the Library, and to provide some financial support for specific agreed projects;
- to build support for the Library by promoting the aims of the State Library of Tasmania;
- to provide advice to the State Library of Tasmania to improve services locally and statewide;
- to lobby independently on behalf of the Library and its users and to make submissions to government concerning library services.
Benefits of Membership
- A monthly newsletter and library report.
- Advance notice of library events, exhibitions and displays.
- Volunteer activities such as helping with local history conservation projects.
- Invitations to special events and library functions.
- A program of guest speakers.
- Guided tours of other libraries in the Launceston area.
- An opportunity to help at fund-raising activities such as the Annual Book Sale and stalls at community events like Agfest.

- Our Visual Heritage - a superb collection of mural photographs of Launceston now available for lease.
- Friends of the Library award for best Library Technician student.
- Library stalls at Agfest, Franklin Village Fair, Westbury Family History Fair.
- Ephemera 2000. Helping the library collection ephemera leading up to the bicentenary of the region.
- Library visits and tours

Becoming a Member of the Friends
Membership is open to any person in the community who wishes to support the Launceston Library.
As a Friend of the Library, Launceston you can be involved in a range of activities, or you can show support merely by becoming a subscribing member with the payment of $10, or $15 for family membership. All members receive a monthly newsletter which details projects, social events, issues for discussion at meetings and contains a report from the Launceston Library. Membership runs from July to June.
Cheques should be made payable to:

Donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Meetings of the Friends
Meetings are held on the LAST THURSDAY of every MONTH
at 5.15pm in the Phil Leonard Room
on the Third Floor of the Library.
