To raise the knowledge and skills of Tasmanian professionals and para-professionals in library and archives through the provision of scholarships which will enable educational travel to institutions recognised as outstanding in particular fields of library or archival services.
The State Library employs mainly librarians and library technicians and has service points of varying sizes all over Tasmania. There are a few administrative and clerical positions located in the Hobart building.

The Trust favours applications for conferences and seminars which focus on development and changes in the profession.
